Geoff Clarke, General Manager, has a long held belief that as a society
we need to change to suit our environment and not expect our environment to change for us – hence the significance of a chameleon to represent the business.
Add to this philosophy his belief that affordable housing is an inherent right for every member of Society, Geoff – with over 40 years experience in the construction industry – set out to create affordable and sustainable housing which provides minimal environmental impact, maximum comfort and security and low maintenance costs.
The Chameleon building system is based on modular concrete structures, featuring the use of moulds to produce a prefabricated, lightweight concrete roof panel over-locking prefabricated concrete wall panels containing inbuilt gutters and down pipes.
The product is ideal for housing and accommodation – particularly in remote and tropical areas – shade shelters, cabins, motel units, ablution/toilet block, stables and small commercial buildings The basic design concept of the multi modular units, which are linked together on site, means pre-casting can be carried out near the required site in a mobile fully integrated production plant.
Product Benefits and Competitive Advantages:
-
Affordability – low cost of construction compared to conventional methods
-
By using readily available transportable components, the modular constructions are quick to erect by our company.
-
No requirement for gyprock or panelling, reducing the cost further.
-
The wall panels contain inbuilt preformed concrete guttering and down pipes, meaning there is no need for steel gutters.
-
Concrete is a robust and durable material requiring very little maintenance.
-
It is an innovative and environmentally appropriate material.
-
Long-term maintenance is dramatically reduced. Concrete reduces the repair and on-going maintenance costs of the finished product.
-
The houses represent sustainable living using renewable energy, harvesting rainwater and minimising waste.
-
It takes a day to assemble the wall panels for a five module home and a day to place the five ‘lightweight’ roof panels.
-
Concrete’s inherent thermal mass helps to keep the house cool in summer and warm in winter.
-
Rainwater capture is integrated into the design of the concrete gutters and downpipes to suit client requirements.
-
Concrete has a very long shelf-life. The Pantheon in Rome, which is made of concrete is nearly 1,900 years old.
-
The openness of the planning and the potential to expand and contract the concrete house design to suit a variety of social needs, weather conditions and environments will ensure that it will be relevant to future generations.
-
The concrete structure is C4 cyclone rated, fire, termite and vandal resistant.
